Peaceful Paths supports over 100 families in getting ready for Back to School each fall with supplies, uniforms, and a kick off event designed to help children in crisis prepare for the upcoming school year.    Soon we will be soliciting for your help to send these families off to a great start this fall.   Stayed tuned for all the ways you can help and how you can impact the families we serve with your generosity and support!

GAINESVILLE – Peaceful Paths Domestic Abuse Network, Inc.  is excited to announce that both Congressman Ted Yoho and State Representative Keith Perry will host teams and play in next week’s bean bag toss (cornhole) tournament to support battered women and children in our community.  This family friendly event, held June 1 at the Thelma Boltin Center, will feature a tournament, side games of skill, and a raffle of a custom set of Gator Cornhole boards signed by Coach Muschamp. Congressman Yoho will pull the winning ticket at 12 pm.

“We are thrilled to have the support of elected officials who understand that importance of our mission,” stated Lynne Vaughan, Board President.  “When men step up to stand against violence against women, it makes a strong statement.  They become critical allies in focusing the community on the work that needs to be done to end domestic abuse.”

Tickets for the raffle, and slots to play in the tournament are still available.  You can enter your two person team by registering online at www.peacefulpaths.org or fax the attached registration to 352-378-9033.  Registration is $40 and must be received by Thursday, May 30.

Mark your calendars now for the Annual Guest Chef Cocktail Party is coming up on Thursday, March 13, 2014  6-8 pm at the Gainesville Woman’s Club, 2809 W University Ave. This event is the community’s largest potluck extravaganza, where 35 local “chefs” create their favorite dishes and share them with you from their very own kitchens. The event includes an open wine bar, live jazz with Gosia and Ali, both a silent and live auction, and Celebrity Host Storm Roberts with this year’s featured chef, Dr. Laurel Warwicke.

Local Domestic Violence Center Receives Verizon Foundation Award

Peaceful Paths Domestic Abuse Network will enhance Violence Prevention efforts with foundation donation

GAINESVILLE- Peaceful Paths Domestic Abuse Network, Inc. has been awarded $20,000 from the Verizon Foundation to enhance Violence Prevention efforts within our community.   The Verizon Foundation supports the prevention of domestic violence by investing in programs that provide education, prevention, victim relief, and empowerment resources. The current Foundation donation will provide much needed support for prevention programs which recently completed a 10 year pilot from the Centers for Disease Control.  Verizon’s support will allow for continued program delivery to youth, and enhance the Center’s ability to distribute social marketing materials, evaluate curriculum, and measure student outcomes for changes in knowledge, attitude, beliefs, and behaviors in regards to healthy relationships.

Verizon commented, “Peaceful Paths has long-served the Gainesville area with critical services to help prevent domestic violence and to care for those who have been hurt,” said Pam Tope, Florida region president of Verizon Wireless.  “We’re proud to be an ongoing supporter of the organization and its important efforts.”  A check presentation will take place at the agency’s Annual Meeting and Trustees dinner on January 28, 2013.

“We were very happy to receive the Verizon support at this critical time,” stated Dr. Theresa Beachy, Executive Director.  “ Our Violence Prevention Program, which is supported in part by United Way and the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence, recently completed a decade-long funding cycle with the Centers for Disease Control DELTA project, and this grant will ensure the continuation of that venture. “  Peaceful Paths provides prevention programming in Alachua and Bradford Counties to over 20 locations serving youth, including schools, after school programs, alternative education centers, and programs for at-risk youth.  Since January 2012, two full time staff and 5 interns have conducted 155 sessions with 3,195 youth in our community.
