#GivingTuesday: November 30th, 2021
First started in 2012, Giving Tuesday is a special international day of giving each year meant to unofficially “open the giving season.”
This time of year had previously been linked to spending and shopping – some of the more materialistic endeavors that, for many, conflicts with the intended spirit of the holiday. Giving Tuesday started as a movement to fundamentally shift the sentiment around this time of year, from buying to giving – from selfish to selfless – from focusing on the economy to focusing on the community.
One night of safe shelter for a survivor costs us $85.
This #GivingTuesday, we are challenging our community to help us raise enough to sponsor 100 nights of safe shelter.
Safe shelter is one of the most important services we offer for survivors of domestic violence. It is where many survivors begin their journey to self-sufficiency for themselves and their families. It is where we house survivors' family pets, have kids play areas, provide cooking supplies, and host several of our services. All services provided to survivors through our organization are free and confidential. #GivingTuesday is an opportunity to support our mission to save lives and create change.
This year alone, we provided 33,988 total nights of safe housing for survivors and their families.
For the week of #GivingTuesday (Tuesday, Nov. 30 - Sunday, Dec. 5th) we encourage our community to give hope to those who need it most this holiday season. Support survivors of domestic abuse today by providing safe shelter and a new beginning.
