New Advocate Training

Across the state of Florida, all certified centers and the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence offer Core Competency training or its equivalent to provide a standard level knowledge base for all advocates, staff or volunteer. The Peaceful Paths New Advocate Training serves as that equivalent training opportunity that provides introduction into intimate partner violence advocacy work. Successful completion will result in a state recognized certification as a domestic violence advocate as long as the person is actively working with a certified domestic violence center.

The New Advocate Training provides 24-hours of the required 30 hours to obtain the victim/advocate privilege designation for the state of Florida. All sessions must be attended to successfully complete the 24 hours in one period. Any missed sessions will require the person to complete the entire class during the next available time. Peaceful Paths provides a training in the spring and fall with a mix of evening and weekend day schedules. The training covers subjects such as the foundation of the battered women’s movement, effective and empowering communication, crisis and conflict resolution techniques in addition to other critical advocacy skills. The training is interactive with specific learning objectives identified and a variety of teaching styles utilized.
